New 2024 Subaru Legacy Changes, Release Date, Interior – Since sedan sales are gradually declining and crossovers are taking over, Subaru launched the seventh-generation Legacy for 2020 with little fanfare. Subaru’s midsize sedan may be prominent in other markets, but the Toyota Camry and Honda Accord dominate the sales charts in the United States compared to the Japanese brand. But the Legacy isn’t a horrible car just because rival sedans outsell it.
Contrary to popular belief, it should be given more consideration and respect. With competitors like the Nissan Altima and Toyota Camry having all-wheel-drive, Subaru’s edge in the midsize sedan sector is no longer unique. However, only the 2024 Subaru Legacy XT grades are available with a powerful 2.4-liter turbocharged boxer-four engine producing 260 horsepower and 277 pound-feet of torque.
2024 Subaru Legacy Redesign
You’d be hard-pressed to locate a 2024 Subaru Legacy on a list of automotive styling icons. The Japanese brand’s design concept does not value evocative aesthetics. As a result, the Legacy is a boring-looking sedan with no real personality. The basic model has just one exhaust outlet and 17-inch black machine-finish alloy wheels. The LED headlamps are sensitive to steering inputs.
Power tilt and slide glass moonroof, LED fog lights, and 18-inch alloy wheels are just some of the perks of the Legacy’s higher trim levels. Even though the Sport model has a trunk spoiler and a sportier grille, these additions do little to enliven the vehicle’s overall look. It’s hard to tell the Legacy from any other car in a parking lot, even when it’s painted red like ours was.
Interior
Last year, we discovered that the Subaru Legacy featured a sleek and comfy interior that was one of the best features of the midsize sedan. Again, it’s not the most eye-catching interior in its class, but it gets the basics right with lots of space, high-quality materials, and a slew of amenities. Notably, the 11.6-inch touchscreen StarLink infotainment system is one of the largest on the market, displaying enormous symbols and photos from the camera system in high definition. A rearview camera, keyless entry, and adaptive cruise control are all included in the Legacy’s standard equipment list. Upgrade to a higher level of trim, and you’ll be able to get more high-end features like heated front seats, dual-zone temperature control, and a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot.
Engine
The standard 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine in the Legacy will do for those who aren’t in a continual hurry to travel from point A to point B. The Lineartronic Continuously Variable Transmission delivers 182 horsepower and 176 lb-ft torque (CVT). It has an eight-speed manual option with paddles on the steering wheel, but it still has the classic CVT rubbery feel.
A hefty right foot is required to merge onto the highway at higher speeds with the standard engine. A turbocharged four-cylinder produces 260 horsepower and 277 pounds-feet of torque, as well as a CVT transmission. It’s not just more powerful, but it also sounds more relaxed than the 2.5L.
2024 Subaru Legacy Release Date and Price
As a result of a few select changes for 2024, the price of the Subaru Legacy in the United States has increased on some trims but not on others. There is a $960 shipping and handling charge for most US states on the Legacy’s base MSRP of $22,995. Following the Premium at $25,245 is the Sport at $28,790, which is the most expensive model. The Limited costs $29,945, while the turbocharged Limited XT costs $34,495 or $36,195, depending on the model you choose.
